Grab a Bite

The following restaurants are ones I have dined at and had no harsh reactions to, however please always inform your server if you are celiac and gluten-sensitive just don’t assume they will know if you are ordering GF. Extra precautions with food handling will not be taken if not specified so protect yourself and just tell em when you order!

Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill

This a place I have grown to love as a celiac, they have gluten free buns, a dedicated fryer (can you say chicken wings and french fries?) as well they strive to modify almost any dish they serve. For the vegetarians out there, they have a gluten free veggie burger that is extremely delicious as well.
My favourite: Crispy Honey Sesame Chicken, stir fry that they substitute the breaded chicken for plain grilled chicken.

Milestones menu has special gluten free symbols next to their dishes, as well as having gluten free pasta, bread and buns and dessert! They take gluten allergies very seriously and wash their hands before taking your plate to your table. I have never been sick, and the staff has always been very accommodating to any dish I may desire.
My Favorite: the brown rice spaghettini, they also can do the crispy chilli chicken without breading, the sauce is GF and its super yummy just pan fried.

Now in terms of gluten free options there is not a ton, however their true draw is excellent service and a gluten free dessert that will knock your socks off, the happy ending. It is only $4.00 and is decadent and rich. Their herb crush salmon is pretty good too!

I bumped into this terrific little pub after a long day of finals and found this to be an amazing spot for us celiac folk. They have gluten free pizza crusts and gluten free hamburger buns. I had the pizza when  I was here and the crust was excellent, not too thick and had a great texture and flavour. They have many other dishes that look and sound amazing, my friend tried the smothered chicken and loved it. They have their menu online so be sure to check it out if your ever in the neighbourhood.

Trailhead Cafe
101 Lake Louise Dr, Lake Louise, AB T0L 1E0

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Trailhead-Cafe/195566457225080

Not only was their coffee absolutely amazing and fresh but I ate one of the most sinfully delicious brownies I have ever had since being diagnosed. Chewy, fudge goodness with dried cherries scattered through the brownie…I instantly fell in love. As well I got a chocolate hazelnut cookie whose taste is comparable to that of a ferrero rocher chocolate. For those of you who aren’t gluten free they have pizzas, bagels, cheesy pizza buns and much more! And the prices considering the location and the size of the gluten-free goodies (which are usually extremely small portions) were extremely reasonable and large in size!

Chateau Deli
Address: 111 Lake Louise Dr, Lake Louise, AB T0L 1E0

http://www.fairmont.com/lake-louise/dining/chateaudeli/

Located within the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise this deli was a nice surprise. They had butter chicken and basmati rice (gluten-free) and they also had gluten-free sandwiches and salads! They also offer coffees, teas and cider and sell alcohol if your looking for a little something extra for your coffee.

Nellies on 17th Ave.

To quote the person I went with the breakfast was “average” however they did have gluten-free bread for french toast etc. and the breakfast was served with fruit. If your in a pinch and in need of some gluten-free breakfast its worth a try.
